A kitchen table is not just a spot to eat a meal for many people. It is typically called into action during the holidays to double as additional counter space and can be used for nearly everything: wrapping presents, rolling out dough, holding cookies as they cool and everything else. A kitchen table should be big enough to be helpful, but not so large that it creates a problem with moving around. If you have to turn sideways to get past it all of the time, the table is too large for the room. Allow enough clearance around it to make it work in the space that is allowed by the kitchen.
